I love vintage barkcloth and other large florals, so I drug them all out and sorted them by size. Most of the pieces are drapery weight, but I wasn't picky if the right piece was quilting cotton. Some are even rayon!
Then I drafted a HUGE 48" block that has lots of different size pieces that are large enough to show off the fabric. I cut and arranged on my design board until I was happy with them and sewed them together. I'll make four of these blocks and give them a 1/4 turn to add more interest. Then I'll add borders as needed to fit the bed. What do you think?
Speaking of my design wall... You may remember that I had a wonderful almost 8' x 8' wall in Tulsa. Well, no room for that here! Mr. HHQ (aka Bill) cut down the batting covered wallboard to fit two bookcases. I can take it down or leave it up as I wish! Love it!!

First, the quilt: Yes, I love it and you've inspired me to do something similar with all the vintage barkcloth that I've collected over the past 40 years!
Second, the download time: Yes, it takes a long time. Are you resizing your photos?
What a terrific way to showcase large vintage pieces with big prints! You certainly deserve a quilt on your bed by now!!! Colorful as well as fun and gorgeous.
Yes, it did take a long time to download.
Where do you put your design wall when you take it down? Does it slide behind the bookcases? I've tried many spots for my ironing board cover and can't find a good fit. Love your big block! It is going to be a gorgeous quilt!
Yep, took a long time for me too~ but worth it!! :-)
It did take a long time. Glad you're making a quilt for yourself! You deserve it!
I think it's gorgeous! And I really like the design wall/bookcase cover up. What a clever husband! (I have one, too. Thank God!)
You've never made a quilt for your own bed? It's now time!
And the picture issue may be a temporary thing that sometimes happens with your server. I use blogger and every once in a while it just doesn't want to play. I wait a few hours and come back and it's seem to be in a better mood.
Working just peachy now!
Well, Gee Whiz! Look at us getting all quilty again!
Love love LOVE this!
Amazing what we can do with squares, isn't it?? This is just lovely Glenna!
Can't wait to see it finished :)
I love love love the size and scope. You're as bad as me. I usually won't use the quilts I make on beds. What is wrong with us? Love the old home dec fabric for a quilt.
